Boubool is an iPhone application published by Beabita, a sole proprietorship registered with the Belgian Crossroads Bank for Enterprises (BCE) under no. BE 0860.949.927 (Belgium). It was designed so that your health data never leaves your device. This page describes what the app does — and above all what it does not do.

No collection, no server, no account

Boubool has no server, asks for no account and collects no personal data. No information — health-related or otherwise — is transmitted to the publisher or to any third party. A single feature uses the Internet outside the App Store: the map background of workout routes, described below. The app contains no audience analytics tool, no advertising tracker and no advertising.

The data you enter stays on your iPhone

Injections, side effects, meals and plates, foods and recipes you create (with their photo if you add one), favourites, the calorie intake you enter, body measurements, nights of sleep, how you feel on waking, hunger, lab results, alcoholic drinks and first name are stored only in the app's own storage, on your device. Boubool uses neither iCloud nor any server; this data only leaves the device through the iPhone backup you manage yourself, as with any app. Deleting the app deletes this data. Recipe photos are picked by you from your photo library through Apple's picker: Boubool only gets the photo you select, never your library.

Apple Health

With your permission, Boubool reads from Apple Health: weight, height, biological sex, waist circumference, dietary protein, steps, resting energy, resting heart rate, VO2 max, sleep, workouts and — only if you track diabetes — blood glucose. If you allow it from a session's sheet, it also reads the distance, heart rate, active energy and route of your workouts, in order to display them. With your permission, Health can also wake the app in the background when a workout, a night or steps arrive: Boubool then reads them on your iPhone to spot a milestone (a habit milestone, a record, a goal reached) and tell you with a local notification. Nothing is sent. Boubool neither stores nor transmits these measurements. It writes back to it whatever you enter in the app that has a Health type: protein, drinks (water, tea, herbal tea), weight, waist circumference, height and blood glucose. These exchanges take place entirely on your iPhone; a summary of your daily rings is sent locally to your paired Apple Watch. Data read from Apple Health is never used for advertising purposes and is never passed on to anyone by Boubool, in accordance with Apple's rules. It only leaves your iPhone if you yourself decide to share a PDF report or an image made by the app. You can withdraw these permissions at any time in the Health app › your profile › Apps and Services.

Route map

When you open an outing recorded by your watch, Boubool draws its route over a map background provided by Apple Maps. To display that background, your iPhone requests the relevant area from Apple: this is the app's only Internet request outside the App Store, and it is handled under Apple's privacy policy. The route itself is read from Apple Health and drawn on your iPhone: Boubool does not store it, does not transmit it, and the publisher never receives it. Boubool does not ask for access to your location.

Subscription

The purchase and renewal of Boubool Pro are handled by the App Store, with your Apple Account. Boubool sees neither your Apple Account, nor your payment method, nor your email address: from Apple it receives only the information “subscription active or not”. You manage and cancel the subscription in your Apple Account settings.

Notifications

The reminders (injection, workouts, Sunday review, evening recap, middle and end of the free trial) and milestones are local notifications, created on your iPhone. A milestone can be detected while the app is closed; its notification never shows a weight figure, and it can be turned off in Settings › The app › Milestone notifications. No remote notification service is used.

Export

Four functions create a file that you choose to share yourself, and only when you ask for it: the CSV export of the journal, the PDF report for your doctor, the JSON backup of your data and, if the database fails, the recovery file. They contain your entries, including measurements and blood glucose. The publisher never has access to them; nothing is sent without your action. A fifth function, "Share my journey", builds on your iPhone an image meant for social networks: your statistics for the week and, if you choose, the kilograms lost since the start and over seven days, the week of your journey and the shape of the curve; your starting weight and current weight appear only if you switch them on. You see it before sharing; it never contains your lab results; your treatment appears only if you switch it on (the molecule — never the brand name —, your current dose and your injections marked on the curve), and Boubool sends it nowhere — you are the one who publishes it.

Children

Boubool is intended for adults going through a weight-loss course and is not intended for anyone under the age of 18.

Your rights

As no data is collected by the publisher, there is no data concerning you to consult, correct or delete on our side: everything is under your control, on your device. For any question, write to [email protected].
